Mrs. Ann Ross
Mrs. Ann Ross was a resident of Wayne Township for forty-three years, died at her home south of Monticello, last Saturday evening, at the age of 76 years, 9 months, and 5 days. Mrs. Ross had been an invalid for two years, not being able to leave her home. She sustained a stroke of paralysis three weeks ago which left her speechless and helpless. The funeral services were conducted at the late home of the deceased last Tuesday interment was had in the United Presbyterian cemetary of Wayne Township.
Mrs. Ross, whose maiden name was Ann Heasty, was born May 4th, 1830, at Zanesville, Ohio. She was married in Ohio, on the 19th of March, 1850 to Absalom Ross. Two years later, they came to Iowa and settled in Jackson County, and in 1864, they moved into Wayne Township of this county, and settled upon the farm which ever after remained their home. Mr. Ross died on the 24th of January, 1880.
The deceased is survived by the following chidren: John F. Ross of Wayne Township; Marshall H. Ross, Perry Ross, Lillie Applegate, of Horton Kansas; Kate Nelson of Beloit, Kansas; Rebecca Dennis of Topeka, Kansas; Jane Foster of Mt. Auburn, Iowa; and Callie Payne of Waterloo, Iowa. All were present at the funeral of their mother, except Marshall Ross, Lillie Applegate, and Callie Payne.
Mrs. Ross was a good woman and her children owe her much for the care and attention that she gave them. For many years she was a member of the United Presbyterian church at Monticello, and remained faithful and true to her religious vows. She was regarded highly by her neighbors, and for the many years to come they will miss her kindly attentions.
